"There's an urban legend that's gone round until no one is sure who it happened to, or if it happened at all. It was late one night, a few years ago, when a young man was walking through Union Square Park. He suddenly felt someone behind him, their hands over his eyes. When he turned in surprise, there was Bill Murray, his creased face leaning in close. Bill whispered, "No one is ever going to believe you," and then just walked away." haaaaaaaaaaaaa Current Music: midnight moscow | | Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 | | 12:03 am |

Oh. That's real high. Fuck broken bones. It's a killer; having to watch while everyone else has fun dropping stuff and all I can do is cruise around. Winter's basically over, and now I have to figure out what to do with myself until I fly out in November. Oh, also, I'm practically broke. "A degree is a first step down a ruinous highway. You don't want to waste it so you go on to graduate work and doctoral research. You end up a thoroughgoing ignoramus on everything in the world except for one subdivisional sliver of nothing. On the other hand, if you guard your mind carefully and keep it clear of any clutter of information till maturity is reached, filling it with intelligence and training it only in clear thinking, then you have a very powerful instrument at your disposal..." -Isaac Asimov Current Music: Immortal Technique | | Friday, July 18th, 2008 | | 7:00 am |
You write something down, now the idea you're drawing from becomes solidified, crystallized, it isn't fluid anymore. So every time you write down an idea that pops into your head, you've sort of killed the possibilities that fluid idea could have been. It's kind of sad, conception. Only one out of your million thoughts gets a chance, all the others die, and the odds of that one making anything of itself is pretty slim. So you concentrate on one idea, or a few, and try to make them grow into something worthwhile, or you throw out a bunch of bastard thoughts into the world and abdicate all responsibility for them. | | Sunday, July 13th, 2008 | | 9:45 pm |
why's the sky blue, why's water wet...
Just woke up from this very very strange dream. Sometimes after a dream like this it feels like I've tapped into some vein of imaginative truth, instead of just the brain nonsense that most dreams turn out to be. The only thing the two dream types have in common is that the details start to slip away as soon as you return to conciousness, and when you try to write them down, you just know it's only a shadow of what you experienced while you were asleep. stream of thought, in one shot: Just had the most incredible dream about how destiny shapes a person yet to come. The soul, core, or whatever part of a person that never dies is presented with challenges by destiny, and depending on how the soul reacts to the challenge determines whether a lesson is learned. The impression I got was that if the soul learns the lesson, some sort of conflict or interaction in life is avoided, but if the lesson still needs to be learned, a new path of action appears and the person must interact along the new path, which further complicates the person/soul's path on a greater scale. In my dream I remember being some kind of agent of destiny, involved in preparing a new soul, this particular soul being a great one, to enter the world. I remember watching the soul's previous (or ye to come? Or current?) trials and having to name a certain personality aspect of his. I named it “The Shadow of the Giant”. The aspect bore the person's appearance, but was more or less a caricature of the personality as a whole. Destiny was simultaneously shaping an aspect of a girl that this person was destined to interact with in a significant way, which was one of the challenge/lessons that needed to be experienced. Either I never saw her, or can't remember what she looked like, but some part of her was incredibly beautiful. The aspect of hers that I got a glimpse of showed a part of her innocence that had been hurt by The Shadow of the Giant, to the point where she was experiencing a great amount of sadness. The Shadow of the Giant was able to feel this and was stricken by the fact that it was he that had caused this. Then we prepared these avatars or whatever they were for entry into the world. So... come boy, choose life or death
I cut & ran when I didn't need to, maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I was having a lot of fun being home for once and I reeeally miss everyone. Also really wanting to start school again, but it's probably too late to start in the fall. Feel like I've been here for a really long time, it's only been 2 weeks. Only 2 days of riding so far. Getting kicked out of the hostel tomorrow because they're full. This place is a magnet for dirtbag dredlock euro-hippies, I want to choke out everyone with a down-under accent (hate it), pop-rock dominates the local radio station, all the european university kids on "holiday" think that J5 is at the peak of rap music, and all the riders here are TOO COOL because they SNOWBOARD. OOOH YOU're SO FUCKING RAD. Eat shit and die. So close to buying a plane ticket back to NY, only holding out so I can fly back on 9/11. Where? View Larger MapThat's where There are a lot of Europeans here, most of them are garbage and they don't even know it. One of the Brits said something interesting though: "...a lot of Europe looks like it's dying, and this place looks brand new, kindof unfinished." I agree with his observation. | | Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 | | 11:02 am |

Lake Wanaka There's no snow. So I'm not riding. So every asshole like me who thought they'd come here and work for the winter is looking for a job, but there aren't any. When I'm not out looking for work, I'm sitting on my ass doing jack shit. I'm almost out of books. Current Music: gza | | Sunday, June 15th, 2008 | | 3:21 pm |
deep end
One week from tomorrow the New Zealand trip starts. Leave NY at 530pm stop in LA 3-hour layover in Sydney fly into Christchurch 28 hours total time Rough plan: Hitchhike or take a bus to Queenstown or Wanaka Get a job find a place to live pick a mountain & buy a season pass buy a car stay at least until the snow is gone big extra: Take a lot of photos, have a sick 4/5 months, write a good story about the trip and sell it to a snowboard magazine. I'm trying to keep from forming any expectations, it'll make it easier to keep my eyes open for good opportunities that I'm not specifically looking for. I hope there are a lot of them, but sometimes it seems like a lot to hope for. | | Thursday, June 5th, 2008 | | 10:45 am |
Had a dream where we were riding NZ and got caught by ski patrol. The reason you weren't allowed on that mountain was because of the crazy predatory animals there. I only remembered this after looking at the cup on my desk, because for some reason, during the dream I was snowboarding with that cup in my hand and I made a point of hiding it when ski patrol caught me. "why don't you ever come out?" because I don't need to spend all my money at bars, or sit around watching someone play GTA, or having everybody feeding off of me. I wanna spend the next month sitting here reading comic books and watching all of metalocalypse, venture brothers, star trek, and farscape. Once you leave you can never come back. Even if you do return to stay, it's the same place but you don't fit anymore. April 30 2008, snowing, everything I own is in that trunk. Got my work visa for NZ, now I need a job & a place to live. Current Music: Twilightning |
